initial rough cut ideas

I played around with different fonts and colours for my mast head and decided to do the "disco diva" font I had previously thought about. I thought it was fun and related well to my genre of magazine. I knew I wanted the title "Listen" and the disco ball at the end which connotes the type of magazine. I knew I wanted to incorporate colour into my title somewhere I didn't know how or where so I experimented with my title.

the first one shows a black title with a colourful disco ball and the second shows all in colour. after peer feedback I decided to go with the black title and colourful ball as it was easier to read, more sophisticated yet  still fun.

For my sell line font I wanted to for something sophisticated and simple. I had two possible fonts I selected:

i liked both of these fonts so I tried them out on my cover to see which i preferred. i decided on Europe Underground as i thought it looked best when i experimented with my cover.

my main sell line is about the model on my cover i wanted to put the sell line across the page using a bold fun font. i experimented with different fonts on dafont.com and different colours on photoshop and came up with:

i thought this was fun and bold and also matched the disco ball in my mast head

Recce of location

I am going to use two location for my magazine:
the first one is a studio

I will be using this for all pictures on the cover and the contents page.
I am going to play around with lighting to make the right effect with alot of impact.
I will use coloured films and spotlights to create a fun picture.
I will use the white background so the main focus is on the model, costume and makeup

The second location is a bridge. Its quite small and derilict giving the pictures an edgy look and with editing i will make it look the photos look colourful and effective making it fit with my genre.

Font research

I went on the dafont website to investigate fonts which might be suitable to my magazine:

Arista is a simple font. The rounded bold edge makes it stand out

Another font that caught my eye is neon. Its bold and quite similar to arista except it has an outline which could look really effective in colour

Disco diva is another one that I really liked. It’s very pop, music like and fun giving it an appropriate feel to a pop magazine.

i liked all of these fonts and i experimented with each of them but eventually decided on disco diva as it was the one that fit my genre the best.

for my sell lines and titles i used a mix of inked god and other simple fonts so that it didnt look to busy on the page. i got these fonts using dafont.com and experimented with several different ones on my cover, contents and dps to find the correct ones.

Costume and prop ideas

For my main artist for the cover I want her to be unique and really edgy. i have decided to put her in a black simple dress as the image will be in black and white. i want to make her hair messy with simple makeup with quite smokey eyes.
For some of my female models, i want to keep my costume very simple as i want the main focus to be on hair and makeup, so i thought that i could put some of my models in LBD's (little black dresses) which i think is very sophisticated and striking. i also think black against the bright colours of my magazine will make a nice contrast.

For my contents page i have decided to do a mix of images, including bands.
i thought this would be a better representation of my target audience.
So for the contents page i am going to include some males that are suitable for young adults. For their costume i am going to make it very stylish and fashionable.

these are the type of artists that young females like to listen to today so i thought i should include small a number of images on my contents page to represent that. i want the boys to be having fun to reflect the genre and the fun nature of the magazine.

Magazine pitch feedback

Flat plans

these are my flat plans for my magazines. i want to make the magazine quite colourful yet bold so it represents my genre. for the cover i either want the model in colour and the sell lines black and white, or the model black and white and the sell lines in colour. i think this will make it really bold. for the cover i want the main thing to be the images with the sell lines down the side, categorized into sections. i want my DPS to have a black background with half image and half text. i want the picture to be a silhouette as i think it will stand out and be a quite powerful picture.
